Traditional nanosecond lasers target melanin through a primarily thermal mechanism, rapidly heating pigment until it breaks apart. While effective for many pigmentation concerns, this heat can also affect surrounding tissue and may increase the risk of inflammation and post-inflammatory hyperpigmentation, particularly in darker skin tones. The larger pigment fragments can also take longer for the body to clear.
PicoSure Pro takes a more refined approach. Its picosecond pulses create a predominantly photomechanical effect, generating a powerful photoacoustic wave that breaks pigment into exceptionally small, dust-like particles. These fragments can then be more efficiently cleared through the body’s natural processes.

What to Expect During Your Appointment:
1. A personalized consultation
Every treatment plan begins with a thorough evaluation of your skin type, previous treatments, and current concerns with one of our doctors. They will explain the benefits and possible side effects of laser treatments and help you understand if it's right for you.
2. Comfort management
You will cleanse and wash your face/treatment area. We have generic wipes and facial cleanser available to you. We offer topical numbing treatment and wait for the effect to take place before proceeding.
3. Targeted laser delivery
Our certified laser specialist guides the PicoSure Pro handpiece across the skin area, delivering fast, precise bursts of energy directly into the pigment.
4. Immediate response
You may notice some redness, slight warmth, and mild swelling of the area immediately after treatment, which is expected to return to normal within 48 hours.
5. Cooling and Recovery
We will apply a cold sheet face mask immediately after treatment to combat the potential side effects and improve comfort. Most patients are able to return to regular activity immediately after leaving the clinic, and it's recommended to return 4-6 weeks after for the next session.
